During June, 2010, the National Agriculture Education Accreditation Council (NAEAC) carried-out external assessment and accreditation of four degree programs of two disciplines of Soil Science and Plant Pathology at KPK Agricultural University Peshawar through an on-site visit of AICs from June 23-24, 2010. Similarly, evaluation of the degree programs of the Institute of Plant Pathology, University of the Punjab was also accomplished by the AIC on Plant pathology from June 26-27, 2010.


The TORs of AICs were:

•To validate the Self-Assessment Reports prepared by the Departments.

•To carryout external evaluation of the degree programs based on set criteria in a transparent, holistic and participatory manner for assessment and accreditation.

•To submit synthesized and concise-analytical report (7-8 pages) on the basis of interaction with Dean, Chairman, Faculty Members, Students and Support staff as well as detail visits of infrastructure, facilities and other teaching learning resources.

•To submit accreditation and rating recommendations to Chairman-NAEAC.


Report writing work is in progress. All the AICs shall submit their report within two weeks for consideration of the Council.





Improving the Quality of National Agricultural Education System:

The fourth meeting of National Agriculture Education Accreditation Council (NAEAC) will be held on January 23, 2009 at Mural Hall of Higher Education Commission, Sector H-9, Islamabad at 10:30 AM. The Council members having representation of experts from agricultural universities and research institutions, leading industries and R&D institutions in public and private sectors will attend this meeting.

The agenda includes approval of the recommendations of experts/program evaluators in the Accreditation Inspection Committee (AIC) reports of various degree programs of different universities/institutions. Work plan for 2010, Budget proposal for 2010-11, etc. The Council was established in 2006 help improve the quality and standard of national agriculture education universities and colleges to bring it at par with the best international universities in the world.


Accreditation Inspection Accomplished:

The National Agriculture Education Accreditation Council (NAEAC) Commenced its 2009-10 work plan activities in November, 2009 at PMAS Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi. Heads of the Departments of Plant Breeding and Genetics and Soil Sciences expressed willingness for external evaluation and accreditation of their degree programs. Meetings were held with HOD’s to sort out various issues pertaining to the on-site visits of AICs of NAEAC. Two separate AICs of experts/program evaluators from each subject area were agreed from the NAEAC roster of P.E and consequently approved by the Chairman, NAEAC on-site inspections were scheduled from December 9-10, 2009. Accreditation exercise which commenced with the briefing by the Chairman NAEAC, has been accomplished with cooperation and support of the HODs and faculty members of the disciplines of PBG and Soil Sciences. Report writing is in progress and shall be finalized within two weeks.

In recent years, the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Government of Pakistan has taken several initiatives to improve both access to and quality of higher education. The establishment of the Accreditation Councils is a major step towards improving the quality and bringing it at par with the international standards. Accreditation is both about quality assurance and quality improvement. Accreditation process determines the minimum acceptable educational standard. The Higher Education Commission established the National Agriculture Education Accreditation Council (NAEAC) in 2007 having representation of experts from agricultural universities and research institutions, leading industries and R&D institutions in public and private sectors.
